Asus 1005HA 10-inch Netbook (Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz Processor, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, up to 8.5 Hours Battery, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Starter, Black)

The Asus 1005HA 10-inch netbook is a machine in the Eee PC Seashell range. Like other Seashell netbooks its looks are sleek and elegant with the curved molded glossy shell. This machine is great for netbook users who want mobile computing throughout the day as it has a good solid 10 hour battery life and this is genuine. With the exclusive ASUS Super Hybrid Engine’s increased power efficiency, with the screen set to a reasonable brightness and Wi-Fi enabled you can get very close to the 10 hour mark. With the screen turned down a notch and Wi-Fi disabled when not required we suspect you could even pass the 10 hour mark.

The hard drive on this netbook provided 250Gb of storage which should be ample for a netbook and with 3 USB ports there is the ability to plugin external drives should more storage be needed. This Asus 1005HA netbook also has an Intel Atom 270 1.6Ghz processor giving it enough power to run the applications required for a portable user. The 1Gb of RAM while sufficient might want to be upgraded if you are going to be running memory intensive programs on the netbook but for general browsing capabilities the 1Gb should be ample.

The Asus 1005HA netbook comes with a 10 inch LED backlit screen which is ultra thin and ultra bright meaning you can watch movies in great quality and the laptop remains quite light because of the thinness off the screen. The max resolution of 1024×600 means web browsing works well.

The ergonomic keyboard is good and easy to use so if you are going to be typing for a while you shouldn’t get any fatigue on the wrists and it should be comfortable to type for extended periods. The multi-touch mouse also enables ease of use especially when viewing pictures and zooming using the pinch method with two fingers. You can also scroll up and down using two fingers making the mouse easy to use and more functional.

The Good
For those who want a good machine for mobile computing this is a great offering from Asus. The powerful battery means you can get a full days computing out of this machine before charging again. The decent screen, ergonomic keyboard and useful mouse means it is capable for lots of applications you may use while out and about, such as browsing, writing, viewing movies or playing music.

The Bad
There aren’t many bad things about this Asus 1005HA netbook. It may be quite thick for a netbook but this is compromise for the excellent battery life. There is no bluetooth built in and this will be a problem for some users who have this as a requirement.

Spy Rating
Asus have been in the netbook market a while now and seem to know what they are doing when it comes to designing their Eee PC Seashell range. Each one launched seems to be refined even more and for the price and all round usability of the netbooks they certainly rate highly with our spy network. While they may not blow you out of the water with power and features their usability and functionality for the everyday needs of a netbook user will be more than ample.
